My primary purpose in creating this artwork and design installation was to leverage the power of AI technology, specifically generative AI, to produce a collection of artworks that would serve multiple interconnected purposes. We incorporated Islamic patterns into our artwork to engage with Qatar's rich cultural heritage and foster local pride. We also sought to resonate with a global audience of football fans, bridging local traditions with the worldwide football community by weaving elements from the national flags of the 32 qualified teams into our designs. Leveraging AI generative technology, we developed a unique model that combined distinctive features of national flags with intricate Islamic patterns, resulting in a range of unique and meaningful patterns tailored to each team's identity. Our approach emphasised flexibility, allowing the AI model to adapt to various inputs while preserving the elegance of Islamic design.

AI-generated Islamic-inspired patterns were produced for each qualified national team during the FIFA World Cup 2022. Using a modified AI model, these patterns incorporated unique colors and visual features from national flags. They were showcased at off-stadium locations, attracting nightly audiences of at least 3,000. This series of AI artworks introduced Islamic geometric patterns to a diverse audience during the World Cup, with no previous pre-trained models for such designs.
